Get Smart Before You Take the Leap!

We can't emphasize enough how important it is to research the breed of dog you are considering.  The purchase of a puppy involves years of commitment.   Hopefully they will be all you had planned.  At CovePoint we go to great pains to match the right dog with the right people, so that hopefully life with your puppy as it grows to maturity will be all you had planned.  The first step is to determine if you and your lifestyle are a good match for the Malinois high-energy style.

Understanding the background of the breed will help explain some of the inherited characteristics that make the Malinois the type of dog that it is.  Many folks think that a dog is a dog, is a dog, is a dog.   Actually the differences between breeds can be like night and day.  Malinois have characteristics that are pure gold to some folks and are just what they want but those same characteristics to other folks make them difficult or impossible to live with.  Please check out the above pages before you decide.

A Malinois is a herding breed and has a great need for a job or something to do.  They are extremely energetic and need owners who are as well. This breed requires lots of physical exercise and a big fenced yard is ideal.  Obedience and agility training, even if you never plan to compete, give the Malinois a mental stimulation they need.  They are good with children and other pets if introduced to them early and are a good match for their energy.
